What is a chiropractor?
A Chiropractor is a primary health care provider who
examines you and your spinal column for any misalignments
of the vertebrae. A misalignment is called a "subluxation"
which causes interferences in the nervous system. This verve
interference prevents messages from being sent from the brain
to the rest of the body and vice versa. There fore, any
interferences between the brain and the body
will decrease the body's ability to function properly resulting
in health problems and spinal joint inflammation.
What is Health?
To answer this question, I turn to Dorlen's Medical Dictionary,
where health is defined as " a normal condition of the
body and the mind, will all parts
functioning normally." How does this definition relate
to chiropractic? Chiropractic is a profession that removes
interferences in the body in the form of subluxations. Thus
one who has their nerve interferences removed is allowing
all parts of the body to function normally.
What Exactly does a Chiropractor do?
A chiropractor performs a chiropractic adjustment on specific
vertebrae in your spinal column to remove nerve interferences
and to put the joints back into proper alignment. This reduces
painful conditions (if pain is a problem) and improves nerve
communication which equals health. You have a skull; seven
neck (cervical) vertebrae; twelve dorsal or thoracic vertebrae
(which your ribs are attached to); five low back (lumbar)
vertebrae; a sacrum (your spine's "foundation");
a tail bone (coccyx); and a pelvis. These make up your spinal
column. When an adjustment is performed, interference and
irritation is corrected and healing takes place. The nerve
is allowed to transmit the proper messages to and from your
brain. Your body is restored to a balanced state, which is
an expression of normal health. The adjustment given by your
chiropractor is a very simple procedure. But the skill and
training acquired by a chiropractor is not as simple, but
it enables him to locate subluxations and to know when and
how to perform an adjustment. This skill separates the chiropractor
from everyone else. Only a chiropractor has put the
years of proper training and education into acquiring the
proper skills in order to accomplish this task.
Who should be under Chiropractic Care?
Anyone with a spine. This means anyone from a week old infant
to a 99 year old senior citizen. Only your chiropractor knows
how often you should be adjusted, after an examination and
evalation of your health status. When you are functioning
to the optimal level that your body can possibly reach, you
can then perform to the best of you ability. By removing unnescessary
imbalance in individuals, sociey as a whole improves. Ask
yourself a question....would I be better off with subluxations
or without them?.
What is the most important organ in the
If you answered, the brain, you're right. All the other organs
mentioned are very important, but the most important is the
brain. You can live months or years without your kidneys or colon; days or weeks without your liver; or 5-6 minutes without your heart. But, without your brain, you’ll live THREE SECONDS. And your spinal cord is an extension of your brain
so if your spine is out of alignment it will interfere with
the communications between your body and your brain which
can and will result in many health problems
